Step 1: Come to Jesus
… just as you are. No need to try to clean yourself up first, no need for thoughts of “I’m not good enough” or “I can’t live a good enough life.” Jesus invites us to just come—with all our flaws and imperfections—and just talk to Him as we would a friend. For Jesus is able, once and forever, to save everyone who comes to God through him.
Hebrews 7:25 KJV tells us that
Jesus is able, once and forever, to save everyone who comes to God through him.
Step 2: Repent
Acknowledge and let God know that you recognize and are sorry for how your sin has kept you separated from Him and from the abundant life Jesus came to give you. And then you make a conscience decision to make a u-turn, a turnaround…a change of mindset. That’s what it means to repent. It means to go the other way. Then, before long, you’ll begin to see God making changes in your heart and in the way you live your life.
Acts 3:19 NLT says,
Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.
You become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus through salvation and repentance. Righteousness simply means to be in right standing with God or reconciled to God.
Step 3: Believe
Trust God to not only take away and forgive you of your sin (Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved—Acts 4:12 NIV), but to help you live a victorious life and to become more like Jesus every day (The thief [the devil] comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I [Jesus] have come that they may have life, and have it to the full—John 10:10).
Romans 8:9-10 says,
For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
Take God at His Word. Believe the promises in His Word. It is just that simple.
Step 4: Confess
Acknowledging Christ as your Savior is a vital part of your salvation.
Jesus said in Matthew 10:32-33,
Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
The Prayer of Salvation
That’s it, friend. Only four, easy but important steps. God made it easy and straightforward because it’s His desire to see everyone saved (1 Timothy 2:4). Now, I’d like to pray a prayer of salvation with you. Just say it out loud as you’re reading it and mean it from your heart:
Lord Jesus, I invite You into my heart today to become my Lord and my Savior. Thank You for dying for me on the Cross at Calvary. I give You my life and ask You to forgive my faults and failures… every sin I’ve ever committed. I turn away from the devil and his evil influences. Thank you for loving me and forgiving me. Help me to live for you from this day forward. Amen.
